Bringing Heritage to Life: The Pok Fu Lam Fire Dragon Dance

This July, our secondary students dived deep into Hong Kong’s rich cultural history through two engaging heritage events.

On 6 July, all S2 to S4 students attended an insightful talk titled “Understanding the Historical Origins and Cultural Value of the Pok Fu Lam Fire Dragon Dance.” The session gave students a solid foundation in the roots and cultural significance of this vibrant local tradition, preparing them to appreciate the artistry and community spirit behind the annual ritual.

Following the talk, our S4 students took part in a hands-on experience on 9 July during the “Introductory Workshop on Fire Dragon Crafting – Construction of a Miniature Fire Dragon Head.” This exclusive workshop offered students a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience with Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage. Under expert guidance, they learned traditional crafting techniques and built their own miniature fire dragon heads using classic materials.

These events successfully brought history out of the textbooks and into the classroom, sparking a newfound appreciation among our students for preserving Hong Kong’s unique cultural treasures.
