On 29 September, the School Hall underwent a dramatic transformation to become a dynamic courtroom! We were honoured to welcome Mr Li Hon-Leung, a distinguished former Judge whose decades of experience on the bench brought an electric atmosphere of judicial authority, wisdom, and passion directly to our campus.
From the moment he took the stage, Mr Li captivated the audience by demystifying the courtroom and revealing the human touch deeply embedded within the law. Justice, as he eloquently demonstrated, is not merely a collection of rigid statutes and cold legal texts, but a living, compassionate framework designed to serve humanity.
To bring the legal system to life, Mr Li shared a series of compelling real-life cases, instantly turning the audience into active participants by inviting students to step into the shoes of a jury. The hall buzzed with critical thinking as students evaluated evidence, deliberated on moral dilemmas, and experienced firsthand the immense responsibility of weighing guilt and innocence.
Through these interactive scenarios, Mr Li unpacked the critical mechanics of judicial decision-making, explaining the key elements a judge must meticulously consider before delivering a verdict. Crucially, he illuminated how the law acts as a shield to protect the rights of all people, reinforcing that true justice ensures equal protection and dignity for every member of society, regardless of their background or status.
Throughout the session, the energy in the room was palpable. Everyone remained rapt and attentive, soaking in invaluable insights into the Hong Kong judiciary system and gaining a fresh, sophisticated perspective on civic duty and the rule of law.
It was an absolute honour and a privilege to experience such an enriching, thought-provoking talk. Mr Li’s visit left us with a profound understanding of the powerful synthesis between the rigour of the law and the warmth of human empathy.
Beyond being an arena for dispute resolution, the court stands as a sanctuary where ethical principles and right values are brought into clear focus and actively upheld. Ultimately, this unforgettable afternoon served as a powerful reminder that justice is not just about enforcing compliance, but about demonstrating integrity, fairness, and moral truth.
