Every pet owner knows the immense joy our animal companions bring into our lives, but part of loving them means navigating the difficult journey of saying goodbye. On 5 June, our school had the privilege of hosting a Life Education Talk during OLE time, organised by the Non-Profit Making Veterinary Services Society (NPV). Centred around the theme ‘Let’s Have a Good Parting’, the session offered students a gentle, meaningful space to explore love, loss, and the art of farewell.
The highlights of the day were undoubtedly our four special guest speakers, a group of remarkable ‘Animal Teachers’ who stole everyone’s hearts while teaching invaluable lessons in empathy and resilience. We were honoured to welcome Arlo, our wise and calm cat teacher, who reminded us of the quiet, comforting presence pets offer during difficult times. We were also joined by three wonderful dog teachers: Mimi, Momo, and a very special senior dog named Happy. At 14 years old and walking gracefully on three legs, Happy was abandoned by his previous owner but now thrives as a beacon of hope, showing our students first-hand the enduring strength of animals and the importance of lifelong commitment.
Through interactive stories and guidance from the NPV team, students learnt that grief is a natural reflection of love. The talk emphasised that ensuring a ‘good parting’ means cherishing our time with our pets, respecting their final days, and honouring their memory after they are gone. Thank you to NPV and our wonderful animal teachers for reminding us that while goodbyes are heartbreaking, the love we share with our furry family members lasts forever.
