As a Catholic school, we are dedicated to nurturing in our students the 5 Catholic core values – Truth, Justice, Love, Family, and Life. With the aim of assisting our students in achieving excellence in both virtues and academics, one of the Major Concerns this year is “To further inculcate the Catholic core values through service learning”.
Apart from the inclusion of Ethics and Religious Education as a subject in the school’s curriculum, we also boost the school’s religious atmosphere through different symbols and facilities situated throughout the school campus. Some of these include the School Chapel, the Marian shrine, and the stained-glass windows outlining the story of creation. Besides, to enrich students’ spiritual growth, we regularly organise a range of experiences such as pilgrimage tours, community services, and thematic faith formations. We hope that Shungtakians – through participating in the Catholic Society, prayer services, morning sharing sessions, and different charity work – will develop a values system compatible with Catholicism.
At Shung Tak, we always take pride in the rich and genuine English environment conducive for language learning that has been inculcated since the beginnings of the College. With two new native English-speaking members in the English Department, we now boast an even more culturally diverse English teaching team with teachers from the UK, Trinidad & Tobago, and India supplementing our local English teachers.
In addition to the plethora of big and small English activities organised by the English Department, the English Society, and the Avid Readers Club, students are also encouraged to employ the language in authentic situations through excursions, study tours, outreach programmes, as well as participation in various external competitions.
Through working hard and playing hard, Shungtakians will become well-equipped in their use of English as they continue on their journey of growth.
