Message from the Former Principal

May I convey my heartfelt congratulations to Shung Tak Catholic College on its 65th Anniversary!

I am indeed honoured and blessed to have the opportunity to share the joy of celebrating this happy occasion, an important milestone in the history of the school. Any school or organization reaching sixty-five years of age is, in itself, a significant achievement, but for Shung Tak, it is a great deal more than just age. Since its establishment, the school has always been recognised by the community of Yuen Long as an institution that represents not only academic excellence, high moral values and spiritual growth, but also, and more importantly, a school that provides opportunities for students to maximize their potential to grow and achieve as individuals, as well as contribute great deeds to the common good of society.

We feel pride in our former students who are contributing so much to the greater good of society. However, our pride is especially strong for those who have maintained a close bonding with their Alma Mater and have rendered tremendous service towards helping the school grow and prosper. The bonds of brotherhood remain stronger than ever and the active STC Alumni Association (STCAA) has greatly contributed to the school’s long tradition of mutual love, care and support.

I bring to mind two sayings that refer to the passage of time. ‘Time flies never to be recalled' and 'Time flies over us but leaves its shadow behind’. Yes, time has flown and, of course, we can never relive those special moments but, having said that, my memories are still clear and bright.  It feels like only a short time ago when I first took up the principalship at the school in 1997. No shadows here. Time will never dull my memories of Shung Tak, especially during the celebrations we enjoyed then. We happily celebrated our grand 40th Anniversary through a series of events, and I remember them as if they were only yesterday. The entire staff gave a singing performance, accompanied by the rhythmic guitar playing of Fr Arturo, our Supervisor and Father Chaplain. Such magnificent efforts signified a spirit of solidarity and unity, and demonstrated a commitment to work collaboratively for the benefit and well-being of the school. Twenty-five years have passed since those celebrations, and Shung Tak has taken long strides in providing an all-round education in line with the values of the Catholic Church. We may have faced challenging times in the last few years culminating in the COVID-19 pandemic but occasions like these are a wonderful reminder that great things are happening, even in the face of adversity. It is clear that with our commitment, we have grown stronger, wiser and more resilient.

Happy 65th Birthday to all Shungtakians, past and present! Happy celebrations! Let us all pray for God’s grace to give us the strength to continue to grow, improve and achieve new heights in the decades to come!
